Defense of a letter to the Charleston Mercury, in which the speaker proposed that the Union be dissolved because the Constitution had failed to protect the South’s vested interest in slavery. The speakers blames the growth of abolitionism in the North as the major threat to Southern rights. “To delay demanding our rights, is generally to abandon them,” he declares at the end of the address.
