26. “The Church: Puritanism: The Freedmen,” American Quarterly Church Review (April 1866): 63-80.

Discussion of an attempt to promote Puritan theology in the South and how this theology affected race relations. The author suggests that the experience of early Puritans in New England with Native Americans led them to view other races as inferior and thus deserving of complete subjugation.
