3. The Colored American Magazine 6 (May and June 1903): 401-480.

Whole issue of “an illustrated monthly, devoted to literature, science, music, art, religion, facts, fiction and traditions of the Negro race.” The magazine is illustrated with photographs and displays advertisements in the front and back. This issue has an article about black sailors in the U.S. Navy illustrated with six photographs. It is followed by an article entitled “No Negro Problem” by D. Augustus Straker, in which the author disputes the claims of white racists that African Americans are ignorant, immoral, and impatient.
