Whole issue of “an illustrated monthly, devoted to literature, science, music, art, religion, facts, fiction and traditions of the Negro race.” The magazine is illustrated with photographs and displays advertisements in the front and back. Pauline E. Hopkins continues her series on “Famous Women of the Negro Race” in this issue by focusing on some “literary workers,” namely Phillis Wheatley, Gertrude L. Fortune [Grimke], and Ida B. Wells [Barnett], the latter born in Holly Springs, Mississippi.
