6. The Colored American Magazine 2 (February 1901): 241-320.

Whole issue of “an illustrated monthly, devoted to literature, science, music, art, religion, facts, fiction and traditions of the Negro race.” The magazine is illustrated with photographs and displays advertisements in the front and back. A photograph of Miss Lena V. Isham appears on the cover. She is described in the issue as a teacher in the Richmond, Virginia, public schools. “Her early teachings have made her ‘practice what she teaches,’ as she is a thorough housekeeper, versed in the latest methods of tailoring, never needing the services of a dressmaker for her personal use.” Miss Isham also has “qualifications for painting and music, which she does not place above her home requirements.”
