Whole issue of “an illustrated monthly, devoted to literature, science, music, art, religion, facts, fiction and traditions of the Negro race.” The magazine is illustrated with photographs and displays advertisements in the front and back. A photograph of Mrs. C. F. D. Fairweather, Jr., appears on the cover. She is described in the issue as “a young matron and a leader in the prominent whist tournaments of Newport’s [Rhode Island] ‘Smart Set.’” Her husband is one of Newport’s “oldest and most respected inhabitants.”
