Four songs purportedly capturing the dialect of African Americans at the turn of the century. The songs are entitled “The Possum and the Coon,” “Profession vs. Practice: Aunt Rachel Jane and Her Piccaninnies,” “The Stolen Melon,” and “The Catfish (Banjo Song).” Five stereotypic, pen-and-ink drawings of African American children by E. W. Kemble accompany the songs.
