27. Washington and Jackson on Negro Soldiers Philadelphia: Henry Carey Baird, 1863. (8 p.)

Review of service by African Americans in the armed forces of the United States during the revolutionary War and the War of 1812. (The collection has another copy of this pamphlet published by a different printer in volume 107 [no. 7]. However, that copy also contains a copy of General Nathaniel P. Banks’s report from Port Hudson, Louisiana, in which he praises the bravery of black soldiers engaged in the assault on May 27, 1863, as well as a poem extolling the valor of African American soldiers during their assault.)
