5. Case of the Slave Isaac Brown, an Outrage Exposed (N.p., [1847?]). (8 p.)
Case involving a slave, Isaac Brown, who assaulted his master in Maryland and was sent to prison, where he received two-hundred lashes. The master then sold Brown to a new owner in Louisiana, but Brown escaped to Pennsylvania before he could be sent down river. Agents of the first owner subsequently detained Brown in Philadelphia, claiming that he was a fugitive slave belonging to their employer. Apparently, this action was an attempt to swindle the second owner by re-selling Brown on the slave market, using the record of his assault on the first owner as a means of fraudulently obtaining ownership.
