Reprint of newspaper articles detailing the tactics of Southern slave owners in the their attempt to gain control over the federal government. The first sentence of the first article reads as follows. “The name Slave Power signifies that control in and over the government of the United States which is exercised by a comparatively small number of persons, distinguished from the other twenty millions of free citizens, and bound together in a common interest, by being owners of slaves.”
