27. F. B. Sanborn, Emancipation in the West Indies (Concord, MS: n.p., 1862). (15 p.)

Essay regarding the successes and failures of emancipation in the West Indies, concluding that it has been much more beneficial to the economies of the places in which it occurred than most people are willing to give credit. The writer applies lessons learned from that experience to the prospect of emancipation in the United States, which he endorses.
