Response by the Institute’s principal to the charge that “from 30 to 70 per cent. of pupils of Carlisle [Indian Industrial School] and Hampton die within four years of their return home, die like sheep with the murrain [an infectious, fatal disease].” He provides statistics and testimonials from former students to challenge the allegation.
