Discussion of racial prejudice in the American South as compared to the attitude of Europeans to persons on African ancestry. The author concludes that racial prejudice in the South “seems as provincial as it is undeniably absurd, cruel, and indefensible.” Mr. Stone has underlined or otherwise noted almost a dozen passages in this article.
