Criticism by a black lawyer of the South’s attempt to disfranchise African Americans. The author disputes the allegation that African Americans are not capable of exercising the right to vote wisely. “Let me prophecy: Strike off the shackles which restrict Negro suffrage in the south and the Negro will be found voting with the south as made up of native whites; for the best interest of the state in which he lives.” Mr. Stone has marked this passage as well as several others in the pamphlet. “Compliments of author to Southern History Association Washington DC Aug 15/1906” is written in ink on the front cover.
