Letter to the Mayor of Boston, John P. Bigelow, from the Secretary of State writing for the President, Millard Fillmore, in regard to an incident on February 15, 1851, in which a group of abolitionists forced its way into a courtroom and freed a fugitive slave. (The fugitive, Shadrach Manikins, was the first runaway slave to be detained in New England as a result of the 1850 Fugitive Slave Law.)
