2. George Livermore, An Historical Research Respecting the Opinions of the Founders of the Republic on Negroes as Slaves, as Citizens, and as Soldiers. Read before the Massachusetts Historical Society, August 14, 1862 (Boston: John Wilson & Son, 1862). (215 p.)
Compilation of primary sources (e.g., speeches, official documents, letters, etc.) dealing with slavery. The author, who actually functions more as an editor, has provided marginal notes to help the reader locate material. Despite what the title states, Mr. Livermore did not read the entire monograph at the meeting.
