Survey of institutions of higher learning for African Americans with statistics on black education compiled from the censuses of 1870 and 1880. The monograph contains more than a dozen tables and curricular information for four schools; Fisk University and Central Tennessee College, both in Nashville, Tennessee, Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Tuskegee State Normal School in Tuskegee, Alabama. A table on page 36 lists twenty-three black schools that received money from the John F. Slater Fund for the 1883-84 school year.
