Speech denouncing the disfranchisement of African Americans in Southern states and blaming Northern politicians for abandoning their commitment to protect the civil rights of the nation’s black citizens. Mr. Stone has marked the following sentence with emphasis. “The truth is, that laboring men can conquer prejudice and become fraternal, but ‘the Southern gentleman of the old school’ will be unhappy if he is not allowed to abuse his ‘nigger’ with impunity.”
