20. T. G. Morgan, Man or Baboon? Two Views of the Negro (New York: Wynkoop Hallenbeck Crawford Co., for the American Baptist Home Mission Society, ca. 1895). (12 p.)

Essay contrasting the purported doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church in regard to African Americans with that of the Baptists. Catholics are depicted as being negrophobic, while the attitude toward African Americans among Southern as well as Northern Baptists is said to be enlightened. The Catholic perspective if deduced from an article entitled “The Negro Fact and Fiction” by Eugene L. Didier that appeared in the July 1895 issue of The Globe. The author of Man or Baboon? speaks for the Baptists.
