Monograph as described by the title with ten woodcuts showing school buildings at institutions supported by the Association, including the first school house at Berea, Kentucky, and the campus of Atlanta University. Some of the other schools illustrated include the Hampton Institute, Talladega College, and Straight University in New Orleans. The monograph also includes brief descriptions of schools and churches as well as reports from missionaries with Native Americans and Asian people. The last twenty pages are devoted to anecdotes contributed by missionaries dealing with the following subjects: “poverty,” “religious excitement--immorality,” “faith, hope, and love,” “desire to learn,” “prayers and speeches,” “original characters,” “teachers and their experiences,” and “the Ku Klux.”
