47. William Külmann, “What Happened to the Feather-Hunters,” Wide World Magazine (February 1900): 466-73.

Account of a trip into the interior of Africa in search of bird feathers, which were then in demand as a fashion accessory. Both the author and his companion were captured by cannibals. The author escaped, but his companion ended up as an entrée. This article is illustrated with four photographs and four drawings, including portraits of the author and of his companion. The sensational style of the writing makes the reader wonder whether the piece is based on fact or fiction.
