Editorial condemning lynching in the South. The author uses the case of Henry Smith to make his point. Smith was burned alive at Paris, Texas, in retaliation for the murder of a three-year-old-child. The author argues that, despite the heinous nature of his crime, Smith’s lynching was not an effective deterrent. The author also expresses concern over the impact of the lynching on children who witnessed it with their parents.
