Transcript of a sermon delivered several years before the war by preacher to slaves on a plantation he had recently purchased. The preacher uses the sermon to instruct his slaves on their duties and the plantation routine. As such, it provides a glimpse into the daily life of African slaves on Southern plantations before the Civil War.
