History of three attempts to form a regional alliance of colonies in New England prior to adoption of the Articles of Confederation. These attempts included the New England Confederacy of 1643, the Albany and Stamp Act Congresses in 1754, and the League of States in 1781. Mr. Stone has marked passage in this article that deal with reputed conflicts between the Puritan character of New England and the Cavalier tendencies of the South.
