55. William Garrott Brown, “The White Peril: The Immediate Danger of the Negro,” North American Review (December 1904): 824-41.
Economic analysis of the role of African Americans in an industrialized South. The author predicts that black labor will loose out to European immigrants in competition for the better paying, more technically demanding jobs. African Americans will, in turn, be relegated to jobs in the service industry unless they “learn to match the white man’s industry, his shrewdness, his forethought of the morrow.”
