Sermon preached before a group of volunteers on their way to join the Union army. The preacher ends the sermon with five “hints as to your own individual duty.” 1) Remember that you are fighting to save the Union. 2) “Remember your invisible Commander and Helper.” 3) Honor Massachusetts and avoid doing anything that might embarrass your home state. 4) Stay healthy and avoid intoxicating drink. Finally, 5) do not swear and attend church services whenever you can.
