Confederate imprint consisting of correspondence regarding a slave named Jacob, who was impressed to work on the fortifications of Richmond, Virginia, became ill, and died within days of returning to his owner’s plantation in Washington County. The slave’s owner, Mary Clark, has petitioned the Virginia legislature for compensation, placing Jacob’s worth at $3000.
