After reflecting on how President Abraham Lincoln’s untimely death prevented a successful resolution of issues concerning Reconstruction, the author warns that former Confederates and their allies in the Democratic Party in the North were attempting to undo everything that had been accomplished by Lincoln’s administration during the war.
