Biography of Indiana’s war-time governor and later a senator who played a significant role in passing legislation related to Congressional Reconstruction. Mr. Stone has marked many passages during Senator Morton’s career in Washington, especially those sections dealing with the Fifteenth Amendment, legislation involving the Ku Klux Klan, and amnesty for former Confederates. The last ten pages of the monograph are devoted to Morton’s denial in the Senate that he had misappropriated federal funds during the Civil War.
