15. T. Thomas Fortune, The Negro in Politics (New York: Ogilvie & Rowntree, 1886). (61 p.)
Critique of the role of African Americans in state and national politics subsequent to gaining the right to vote after the Civil War. The author berates his race for failing to exercise their franchise in a unified and intelligent manner and, instead, allowing themselves to be manipulated by cynical politicians. Mt. Stone has marked several passages in the pamphlet and references it in a footnote (Studies in the American Race Problem, p. 360).
