Account of a complicated legal case in which an African American woman and three of her four children were seized in southern Michigan as fugitive slaves by a party of eight slave-catchers from Kentucky, who were subsequently surrounded near South Bend, Indiana, by white citizens sympathetic to the plight of the fugitives.
