Three documents: a review of service by African Americans in the armed forces of the United States during the revolutionary War and the War of 1812 (6 pages), a copy of General Nathaniel P. Banks’s report from Port Hudson, Louisiana, in which he praises the bravery of black soldiers engaged in the assault on May 27, 1863 (1 page), and a poem extolling the valor of African American soldiers during their assault at Port Hudson. (The collection has another copy of this pamphlet published by a different printer in volume 75 [no. 27]. However, that copy does not contain Banks’s report nor the poem about the black soldiers at Port Hudson.)
