Letter objecting to passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which voided the Missouri Compromise and thus re-opened the issue of the extension of slavery into U.S. territory acquired as result of the war with Mexico. The author argues that accepting the concept of popular-sovereignty is tantamount to endorsing Calhoun’s doctrine of nullification.
