BURCH (ANNIE Z. HARRINGTON) NOTEBOOK

Biography/History:

Annie Harrington was born in Lexington, Holmes County, Mississippi, on December 11, 1897 to Pinkie Downer (b. ca. 1871 – d. December 7, 1928). Harrington married a local farmer, James Burch (b. January 20, 1894 – d. November 11, 1941) on December 24, 1915. Annie and James had one son, Charlie Thomas Burch (b. 1918 – d. December 26, 1928). In addition, Annie Burch was an active member of Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lexington, Holmes County, Mississippi.

Annie Z. Harrington Burch died on March 16, 1984.

Scope and Content:

This notebook documents the names, deaths, and some births of three hundred African Americans in Carroll and Holmes Counties, Mississippi, from 1928-1984. Annie Burch may have created this notebook as part of her responsibilities as a member of the Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Of note, the first death recorded within Annie Burch's notebook is of her son, Charlie Thomas Burch.
