William Jones Miller was an early twentieth-century Mississippi businessman and politician. He owned stock in several banks and businesses and held various offices in county and state government. Miller was sheriff of Panola County (1889-1895), a clerk in the state auditor's office under W. Q. Cole (1900-1904), state treasurer (1904-1908), deputy insurance commissioner under T. M. Henry (1912), state auditor (1920-1924), and state tax collector (1924-1932).

Miller was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on June 26, 1856. Although Miller attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, he never graduated. He was married to Isabella Young, and they had seven children. At the time of his death in 1938, Miller was doorkeeper of the United States Senate.

This collection contains a state insurance commissioner campaign ledger kept by William Jones Miller in 1907. It lists Mississippi counties and the names of political contacts within each county. Also included is correspondence regarding Miller's campaign for public office. Other items of interest include campaign cards announcing Miller's candidacy for state insurance commissioner.
