Scope and Content:

This handwritten manuscript has four sections. The sections are not labeled and do not have a preexisting sequence. The first section is a spelling book with words and their definitions. The second section contains arithmetical notes. Topics included are money tables, compound addition and subtraction, fractions, profit and loss, interest, and instructions on finding the dominical letter. The third section contains a timeline which chronicles events such as the resurrection of Jesus Christ, in 33 A.D., the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, and the death of Sir Isaac Newton in 1727. The timeline also notes the appearance of "a very great comet" in 1680. The fourth section contains a pair of tables listing relatives that may not marry one another. A fragmentary page contains copies of bonds from North Carolina dated 1771.
