MISSISSIPPI FEDERATION OF WOMEN'S CLUBS STATE INSTITUTION REPORTS

Biography/History:

According to the 1950-1952 yearbook of the Mississippi Federation of Women's Clubs, "Eleven State Institutions or State controlled buildings had prepared information for study by clubs or anyone interested in having real facts about Mississippi. The list is not complete. Those who gave information were officials at Mississippi State College for Women, State College, University of Mississippi, Alcorn College, Jackson College, Ellisville State School, Columbia Training School, Oakley Training School, State Hospital at Whitfield, Penitentiary, and Capitols."

The reports were bound in "attractive folders, green with name in silver" by State Institutions Committee chairman Mrs. Horace Stansel. Three copies of the reports were sent to the headquarters of the Mississippi Federation of Women's Clubs; one copy was sent to the headquarters of the General Federation of Women's Clubs; and copies were also sent to the State Law Library, New Capitol, and the Department of Archives and History.

Scope and Content:

The collection contains the eleven reports compiled in 1951 by the following institutions for the Mississippi Federation of Women's Clubs: Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College, the State Capitol Building, Columbia Training School, Ellisville State School, Jackson College for Negro Teachers, Mississippi State College, Mississippi State College for Women, Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield, Oakley Training School, State Penitentiary, and University of Mississippi. The reports include photographs, commentary, and printed material. File arrangement is alphabetical.
