Biography/History:

The Pioneer Club was founded in Jackson, Mississippi, in May 1936, to "conserve and utilize the historic interests of the city of Jackson; to discover, collect and preserve all historic material relating to the development and growth of the city." Membership was limited to men and women whose families had been continuous residents of Jackson for at least fifty years.

Scope and Content:

This collection contains two photocopies of an essay compiled by James Barnard Butler in 1972 to commemorate the sesquicentennial of Jackson as the capital of Mississippi. The essay provides brief histories of Jackson and the Pioneer Club.
