This scrapbook was kept by the Belvidere Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Greenville, Mississippi, circa 1916–1919.

Scope and Content:

This volume contains clippings, photographs, and biographical sketches that provide a well-organized record of Washington County's World War I efforts. The volume has a table of contents, an extensive alphabetical name index for both Caucasian and African American soldiers, as well as casualty lists for both whites and blacks. The general headings from the table of contents paint a picture of the wide range of information that may be found in the scrapbook: Washington County War Work Under Federal and National Direction; Washington County Foreign War Relief Work; Washington County Local Work; Personal Sketches; and Washington County's Colored Section.

Of particular interest to the researcher may be the information concerning African American contributions to the war effort, the short biographies of the soldiers who served, and clippings and photographs related to William Alexander Percy.
