Biography-History

Jonas Aby and family lived in Middle Towne, Virginia. Two sons, Samuel and Thomas, migrated to Mississippi in the 1830s (?) where they engaged in various business and farming practices.

Scope and Content

The collection is a typescript edition (1939) of letters from the children of Jonas Aby to their parents and to each other. The editor is unknown.

Mississippi letters include those written by Samuel and Thomas Aby of Copiah County and Grand Gulf to their parents and family in Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland. These letters relate to family news and the mercantile and farming business in Mississippi.
