CHAMBERLAIN-HUNT ACADEMY RECORDS

Chamberlain-Hunt Academy was established at Port Gibson, Mississippi, in 1879. The academy is owned and operated by the Presbyterian Church, Synod of Mississippi. It is the successor of Oakland College, which was founded in 1830 but forced to close in 1867. The academy is named for Dr. Jeremiah Chamberlain, the founder and first president of Oakland College, and David Hunt, a wealthy benefactor.
