W. T. Jennings was an Orderly Sergeant with Company A of the 12th Mississippi Regiment. He was captured at Fort Gregg near Petersburg, Virginia, on April 2, 1865, and entered Point Lookout, Maryland, as a prisoner of war on April 5, 1865. He was released on June 28, 1865, and arrived home in Jackson on July 10, 1865. The notebook contains information about his capture and release, mementos, newspaper clippings, and names of those soldiers absent from his company. A note at the end of the book states that the book was made while Jennings was a prisoner.
