The diary, which contains recordings of the weather conditions and daily events, is broken up into two parts. The first part covers January 21, 1854–December 31, 1865, and the second part is dated January 1, 1870–December 31, 1877 (the years excluded were not obtainable). The account ledger, February 19, 1851–February 3, 1866, and later with entries for February 22, 1870–October 18, 1877, contains accounts for merchandise and goods; a cure for scratches (a horse ailment); names and ages of Negroes located on Happy Hill Plantation; and family expenses.
