The First Natchez Bank was chartered in 1895, following the merger of the Bank of Natchez and the First National Bank of Natchez. The president of the First Natchez Bank was A. G. Campbell, a recognized leader in Southern banking circles. While living in Natchez, Campbell and his wife, Mary Gaither, became popular throughout the community.

During the early 1900s, the First Natchez Bank was a very stable institution with a capital surplus of over $100,000. By 1913, the bank offered a wide variety of services, including checking and savings accounts, foreign currency exchange, and steel safe-deposit boxes.

Despite its early success, the First Natchez Bank closed at the end of June 1914. According to a 1985 tour guide of the Natchez area, the First Natchez Bank assets were merged with the United Mississippi Bank. The physical structure, a Greek Revival building erected in 1833, remains a popular tourist attraction.

The First Natchez Bank records consist of five items: four pages of accounts and a canceled check dated 1902. As these materials indicate, the Commercial National Bank and the Louisiana National Bank, both located in New Orleans, conducted business with the First Natchez Bank. The accounts record monetary transactions between these banks. Total checks, remittances, and balances for the months of September and October, 1902, are included.
