HARRELL (GEORGE LOTT) PAPERS

1921; 1921; 1922

George Lott Harrell was born on October 17, 1875, at Bear Creek, Hinds County. He was the son of Dr. Lucien and Carolyn (Carmichael) Harrell. George was educated in the Adams Station and Bear Creek Schools of Hinds County and entered the preparatory department of Millsaps College in 1894. Here he received his B.S. degree, and, in 1901, Millsaps College conferred upon him the Master of Science degree. On September 3, 1903, Mr. Harrell married Miss Elizabeth Slaughter of Winchester, Tennessee. From this union came three children: William Osborne, Elizabeth, and Benjamin. In 1911, after teaching in colleges in Arkansas and Louisiana, Mr. Harrell accepted the Chair of Physics at Millsaps College, never leaving the institution until his retirement in 1947, when at this time, he received the honor of having bestowed upon him by the college the honorary degree of Doctor of Science.

This collection contains the following (3) correspondents: D. A. Carmichael to G. L. Harrell, July 19, 1921; Henry T. Carley to G. L. Harrell, July 27, 1921; and W. S. Tatum to G. L. Harrell, July 20, 1922. Also included is what seems to be a part of a snow-sled puzzle.
