William Hollingsworth, Jr. was born in Jackson, on February 17, 1910. He died August 1, 1944. He graduated from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago, in 1934. He was an art instructor at Millsaps College from 1942–1943. Hollingsworth is a well-known painter for his work with oils and water colors. His paintings which include landscapes and figures have been exhibited throughout the United States. He received ten honors from 1936–1944. Collections of his paintings can be found throughout Jackson in several public buildings such as the Governor's Mansion, Belhaven College, Municipal Library, and the Deposit Guaranty Bank.

The material contained within the press books consist of notes, photographs, newspaper clippings, and mementos which relate to Hollingsworth's career as an artist. There are three bound press books covering the years 1933–1939, 1940–1955, and 1956–1972. Also included is a folder of miscellaneous publications which contain art work done by Hollingsworth.
