SAGER (SARAH KNOX HARRIS) COLLECTION

1793-1921

Sarah Knox Harris Sager of Port Gibson was descended from John Sevier, first governor of Tennessee, President James K. Polk, and a niece of Mrs. Andrew Jackson. Mrs. Sager's mother was Jennie Vertner Sevier Harris, a great-granddaughter of Governor Sevier.

The Sager Collection includes thirty folders containing business and personal correspondence and some printed material. The oldest document in the collection is a deed made out to Adam Meek by the state of North Carolina on July 29, 1793. The collection's thirty-one volumes include children's books, recipe books, scrapbooks, memorandum books, and financial records books. The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, poems, and pictures. Folder 30 in Box 2 contains a genealogical chart of the Donelson family of which Andrew Jackson's wife Rachel was a member.
