Letters to and from the Reverend Elijah Steele, prominent in the early history of the Methodist Church in Mississippi. The Reverend Mr. Steele was born in Williamson County, Tennessee, on April 3, 1814; died in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 10, 1841, at the age of 27, and is buried there. His life is the subject of a biography by the Reverend Benjamin M. Drake, D.D. Correspondents include Henry Hampton Bridges, R. R. Bridges, Mary A. Steele, and William Winans.
