Letter written by Mrs. Roach from Vicksburg, Mississippi, August 22, 1897, addressed to "My dear son" describing Joseph Davis' plantation, "The Hurricane." Included in the letter is a description of Mrs. Jefferson Davis, "then a slight (ugly) young married woman.…Her husband was in Mexico leading his gallant Regiment." The lower portions of pages 5 and 6 have been cut away.
