WADE (BATTAILLE HARRISON) AND FAMILY PAPERS

1867 - 1951

Family letters, business correspondence and papers, account books, ledgers, day books, land records and miscellaneous papers of the Wade family, Prospect Hill, Jefferson County. Battaille Harrison Wade (1856–1926), the great-grandson of Isaac Ross and the son of Isaac Ross Wade, served in the Mississippi Senate from the Tenth District; on the Board of Trustees of Chamberlain Hunt Academy, Red Lick Consolidated School, Jefferson County High School; and Board of Supervisors of Jefferson County; and was a Presbyterian deacon and a Mason.

The volumes are plantation account books, with one volume being a compilation of cemeteries in Jefferson County, both white and colored, with a listing of those buried in each cemetery. This volume is indexed.

Of particular interest are the daily cotton market quotations, sent to Mr. Wade in post card form by Julius Weis & Company, cotton factors in New Orleans, Louisiana. These daily reports cover the period May 3, 1893, through April 21, 1903, with some missing.
